Redevelopment Plans Unveiled – A New Era for North Ryde RSL Community CLub

Since opening our doors in 1958, North Ryde RSL Community Club has been a proud cornerstone of the local community. We’ve grown alongside our members, evolving over the decades while staying true to the traditions that define who we are. Today, we’re excited to share the next chapter in our story: an ambitious staged redevelopment designed to strengthen the Club for the long term and deliver lasting benefits for members and the wider North Ryde community.

What the redevelopment will deliver

The project is guided by three clear goals, each shaped around
improving your experience at the Club:

1. All key services on one main level

We’re bringing the Club’s core services together on a single level to
make it:

  • easier to navigate
  • more accessible for everyone
  • more efficient for day-to-day use
  • more welcoming from the moment you arrive

2. Modern amenities, designed for today

We’re updating and refreshing the spaces members use most,
including:

  • restaurant and café
  • lounges and social spaces
  • sports bar
  • kids areas

These areas will be redesigned with contemporary comfort, improved layouts, and a more modern look and feel.

3. A smarter, more efficient Club layout

The redevelopment will improve circulation and operational flow, so members and guests enjoy a smoother, more enjoyable visit whether you’re popping in for a meal, meeting friends, or spending the afternoon with family.

A vision grounded in community and heritage

The new design draws on the history and natural surrounds that make North Ryde unique. Inspiration comes from:

  • the Field of Mars — land granted to soldiers in 1792, reflecting service and resilience
  • the Lane Cove River — a long-standing place of connection and continuity for generations

These themes of heritage, strength, and belonging sit at the heart of the redevelopment vision.

Expert design partners

We’ve engaged BSPN Architecture as the principal design consultant. BSPN is a leading Australian practice with more than 40 years’ experience in hospitality and community projects. Their contemporary, member-focused approach will ensure the new North Ryde RSL balances tradition with modernity— honouring our legacy while creating vibrant, welcoming spaces for the future.

Project timing and next steps

The redevelopment is still in its early stages. We’re about to commence a pre-lodgement meeting with Council, with the Development Application (DA) expected to progress in the coming weeks.
To minimise disruption, construction will be delivered in carefully planned stages.

What this means for members

  • All Club services will remain open and available throughout construction.
  • Works will be scheduled to reduce impact on daily operations.
  • We’ll continue to share updates as timelines are confirmed.

Looking ahead

This redevelopment is about more than upgrading facilities—it’s about creating a stronger, more connected North Ryde RSL for generations to come. By investing in modern spaces and improving how the Club operates, we’re ensuring our financial strength translates into real benefits for members and the local community.

We look forward to welcoming you into a revitalised Club that proudly honours our history while supporting a vibrant and sustainable future.
